Grand Wagoneer Coming Around 2020

Trucks.com spoke with Mike Manley, head of both the Ram and Jeep brands, and asked about the Grand Wagoneer's expected release date of late 2019 to early 2020. Mike confirmed that we'll see it around 2020! Now we have a solid release date and the sale date should follow shortly after.

That sounds about right because 2020 is a pivotal year for Jeep, its when they plan to introduce plug-in hybrids, something which this brand has never seen before. No better product than the Grand Wagonner, similar to what GM did with the Hybrid Tahoe years ago. Then the Cadillac followed.

As a family hauler, I won't be surprised to see a hybrid Grand Wagoneer from Jeep and that would actually be more appealing to buyers because who doesn't want more mileage? With how large we're expecting it ot be, there should be plenty of space to fit a large battery pack.

Mileage is out of the window due to the fact of how big of an SUV it will be much like what we see from the Escalade and Suburban.. hard to get way from that unless they make it an EV or some high end hybrid which I highly doubt!

I'd assume most wouldn't care much for fuel economy in large vehicles, just like how it's not really a concern in pickups either. But the world is moving towards greener models be it hybrids or full electrics and Jeep seems on board with a hybrid Wrangler. Maybe other models will follow.

It still does matter just to a different extent because when you shop int his segment there's an understanding that fundamentally not much can be done. However given what we seen in the Pacifica Hybrid FCA does have an option to be greener here.

I don’t think anyone shopping for a Wagoneer is doing so with fuel efficiency in mind. A hybrid powertrain would certainly make sense for this model, assuming they can work around its large size and weight. At least we finally have confirmation of a release date, hopefully with some spy photos to follow.

That's still two years until 2020 and we may not see a test mule until early to mid 2019. Best we can hope for is Jeep giving us small hints here an there at some of the auto shows this year, maybe even at the annual Moab meet. It may be a gathering of mostly Wranglers but other models are welcome as well.
